I was homeschooled for 11 years, 2nd to 12th grade. So CSUF was my first time at a public school. CSUF places a big emphasis on diversity and it’s not a bad thing, but when I started coming to school here I felt like I was just seen as my ethnicity. I was limited to just my experiences as an Indian American girl, a fragment of who I am.
I was raised to see the entirety of a person, to get to know them as a whole. That’s how I want to be seen and known; that’s how everyone should be seen and known. In the entirety of their personhood.

In my actual self portrait (on the left), I hid twelve different objects that symbolized parts of my personality to show that everything about a person cannot be discovered in one glance.
